Easy Bread Pudding Recipe

Bread pudding is a delicious treat popular in many parts of the world. If you have been wanting to try and make bread pudding for yourself or someone you love, here is a great easy bread pudding recipe to try. And it's chocolate!

For this recipe you will need:

  • 2 cups stale bread cubes (about 4 slices)

  • 2/3 cup sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 4 cups scalded whole milk

  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Next, melt the chocolate over a double boiler. Once it has melted fully, remove it from the heat. Add the sugar, salt and bread cubes. Stir these together.

Add all of this to the scalded milk and stir until blended.

Add a little bit of the milk mixture to the eggs – being careful to not add too much at a time so you don’t cook the eggs – and stir. Add the rest of the liquid mixture and the vanilla extract.

Pour this into a buttered dish or into individual bowls.

Bake for one hour, then let cool for fifteen to thirty minutes before serving.

If you wish, top with whipped cream.

Notes on this recipe:

  • Whole milk produces a creamier and richer pudding. Milk with less fat content creates a more water pudding. The flavor is still good with lower fat milk, but it will not be as pretty.
  • If you use individual bowls, reduce your cooking time. You will need to experiment with the timing a little to get it just right.
  • For an even tastier treat, consider adding fresh raspberries. You’ll never go back to that “vanilla stuff with raisins and hard sauce” again after experiencing this ecstasy.

I didn’t know there was any other type of bread pudding until I was twenty years old. Most grandmothers are remembered for their milk and homemade cookies. My grandmother is remembered for her delicious and easy bread pudding made with chocolate.
