Chocolate Covered Strawberries

The sweetness of a plump, juicy strawberry combined with the richness of pure Belgian chocolate is enough to make any mouth water, so why not make a batch of chocolate covered strawberries in your own home. You don’t need a reason to enjoy chocolate strawberries, although they do make a very original gift for birthdays and anniversaries.

You don’t need to be a gourmet chef to whip up a batch of chocolate dipped strawberries and you don’t need special equipment. These delicious little parcels are perfect for finishing off a special dinner or simply nibbling on while watching TV.

So how do you make chocolate covered strawberries?

Essential ingredients for chocolate strawberries

  • As many strawberries as you want to cover - bear in mind that the strawberries will only remain at their best for a few days after being dipped so don’t make huge amounts if they are only for you.
  • The chocolate of your choice - 6oz of chocolate is plenty for making 24-30 chocolate covered strawberries. You can use milk, plain or white chocolate, or any combination you choose. Chocolate chips are very good for making strawberries in chocolate as they melt smoothly, but roughly broken chocolate bars work just as well.
  • Decorations of your choice – before your chocolate dipped strawberries set you can decorate them with all sorts of candy pieces like fudge pieces, marshmallow, nuts etc.

4 simple steps to make chocolate covered strawberries to die for

  1. Measure out 6 oz of your favorite chocolate (or as much as you think you’ll need to cover your strawberries) and put it in a microwavable dish. Melt the chocolate until you have a smooth mixture.
  2. Select a number of ripe strawberries that have their green cap still attached. Dip the strawberries in chocolate until there is just a small portion of the strawberry showing. You can dip them vertically if you want or at an angle to add a bit of uniqueness.
  3. Once the strawberries have been dipped quickly swirl them using the stalk so that any dripping chocolate is removed. You can then put the chocolate covered strawberries on a wax paper covered sheet pan or cookie tray. If you want to add decorations do so now before the chocolate cools and sets.
  4. Allow the chocolate strawberries to cool and serve them as soon after making them as possible. For the best results try to make them on the day that you want to serve them or give them as a gift.

Chocolate dipped strawberries are fun and easy to make. They can add a touch of romance to a special meal or a smile to any face – including your own when you sample the results.
